Thompson, Walter Palmer (1889- 1970)

Born on April 3, 1889, a biologist, professor, and administrator, Walter Palmer Thompson was known for his contributions to science and scholarship at the University of Saskatchewan. Educated at Harvard University, Thompson's field of research involved plant genetics. His expertise led to appointments as Professor and Head of the Department of Biology, Dean of Arts and Science, and President Emeritus of the University of Saskatchewan. The University's W.P. Thompson Biology Building is named in his honour. Thompson received numerous awards including the Flavelle Medal presented by the Royal Society of Canada in 1950 and was invested as a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1968. He died on March 30, 1970.
