Born in Blackburn, England, Dr. John McLeod’s efforts as a teacher and researcher have made significant advances in the field of education. He worked in England and Australia prior to coming to Canada in 1968 where he was the first director of the Institute of Child Guidance and Development at the University of Saskatchewan. There he helped create a clinic that provided diagnosis and remedial treatment for children with learning disabilities. A former Scholar-in-Residence at Harvard University, Dr. McLeod has received numerous honours and awards including the Canadian Education Association Whitworth Award for Educational Research in 1986 and a lifetime achievement award from the Saskatchewan chapter of the Canadian Council for Exceptional Children in 2003. He was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 2004.
