Born in 1912, Yorkton’s Anna Gertrude Ingham has shared the gifts of reading and writing with thousands of children through her Blended Sound-Sight Method of teaching. Beginning in the 1930s, she taught in several one-room schoolhouses throughout Saskatchewan. In 1967, she published , a textbook that outlined her system of rich phonetic instruction with the sight method of reading. Since then, the successful instructional book has gone through five editions. In recognition of her innovation teaching methods, Anna Ingham was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada in 1995.
