Born on October 21, 1921, Margaret Hudec was a prominent volunteer for the Girl Guides of Saskatchewan and Canada. She started out as a Brownie, then became a young leader, and was the guide lieutenant and a member of the Saskatchewan Council of Girl Guides beginning in 1948. Between 1950 and 1979, she held six different positions on the Council including provincial commissioner. In addition, Hudec spent three years as an independent member of the national council of the Girl Guides of Canada. In 1967, she helped establish Camp Can-ta-ka-ye, a provincial Guide camp on Lake Diefenbaker. For her outstanding service to the Girl Guides, Hudec received the Canadian Centennial Medal and the Order of Canada in 1981. She died on November 12, 2004.
