Wyant, Gordon (1914-)

Gordon Wyant was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on March 28, 1914. He received his MD from Bologna, Italy, in 1938. He moved from Loyola University, Chicago, to become the first head of Anesthesia at the new medical college in Saskatchewan from 1954 to 1981, and has been Professor Emeritus since. Wyant is a past president of the Canadian Anesthetists' Society and of the Defense Medical Association. He is the author of over 100 scientific publications. He was a member of the University of Saskatchewan team which pioneered kidney transplants.

Wyant's military career began in 1941. He achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel and was commanding officer of the 20th medical company in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. Dr. Wyant also served on diocesan and national synods in the Anglican Church.

Dr. Wyant has received the War Medal, the city of Saskatoon Certificate of Distinguished Community Service, and the Quality Improvement Award from the Saskatchewan Medical Association and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1992.
