An advocate for people with physical and mental disabilities, Ann Sudom was born in Avonlea on April 12, 1923, and moved to Regina with her family in 1960. As a mother to three physically and mentally challenged children, Sudom devoted herself to working with the disabled through such organizations as the Saskatchewan and Regina Associations for the Mentally Retarded, Voice of the Handicapped, and Cosmopolitan Activity Centre. She also served as president of the Regina and provincial Councils of Women and as a representative for the National Council of Women. In 1982, Sudom was awarded a YWCA Women's Award for outstanding achievement in health and the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1990.
