Born in Meacham, Saskatchewan on December 22, 1927, Howard Stensrud has been a leader in providing educational opportunities, residential employment programs, and improved living conditions for handicapped Saskatonians. He was a member of the Saskatoon Association from the Mentally Retarded from 1965 until 1993 and its president from 1967 to 1969. He helped found Cosmopolitan Industries and Cosmo Golf Ltd., which provide work programs for hundreds of handicapped people. The Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres has also benefited from his expertise and counsel. Howard Stensrud was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada in 1994.
