Pinsonneault, Roland A. (1913-2002)

Pinsonneault, Roland A. (1913–2002). Born in St-Cyprien de Napierville, Quebec, on September 22, 1913, Roland Pinsonneault came to Saskatchewan at an early age and spent his lifetime promoting the French language and culture. Beginning in the 1930s, Pinsonneault farmed east of Gravelbourg and soon became involved in the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the Association Culturelle Franco-Canadienne, and College Mathieu. A founding member and president of la Cooperative des publications fransaskoises, he played an important role in the revival of l’Eau Vive, the only Francophone weekly newspaper in the province. Pinsonneault was awarded an honourary doctorate from the University of Regina and was the first recipient of the Ordre de la Fidelité Française du Conseil de la vie française. He was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada in 2000. Pinsonneault died on March 2, 2002.
