Moss, Gwenna (1937-)

Born on June 11, 1937, in Saskatoon, Moss received a BSc in Home Economics from the University of Saskatchewan in 1959. She obtained Masters (1968) and PhD (1970) degrees in Extension and Adult Education at the University of Wisconsin. In 1971 Moss began to teach in the Extension Division, and has always maintained a commitment to adult education, extension, and instructional development. In 1975-77 she taught rural women at the University of Ghana, then returned to the University of Saskatchewan, where she became a professor of Continuing Education in the College of Education. She was Dean of Home Economics (1982-86), Associate Vice-President, Academic (1986-90), and Acting Vice-President, Academic (1990-91); she was the first woman appointed to a senior academic administrative post at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1992 she returned to the Extension Division and was responsible for the Instructional Development Program. In 2000 reorganization led to the establishment of the Gwenna Moss Teaching and Learning Centre. Awards given Moss for her academic and community contributions include the Saskatchewan Association for Lifelong Learning Roby Kidd Award (1996), the University Alumni Association Award of Achievement (1998), and an award as Outstanding United Way Volunteer (1999). She retired in 2004.
