Alison Lohans

Alison Lohans was born on July 13, 1949, in Reedley, California. She was first published when she was 12. She attended university at California State until 1971, receiving her BA in Music Education, and then immigrated to Canada. She attended the University of Victoria, where she received her postgraduate diploma in Elementary Education. She moved to Regina in 1976 and taught beginning band for three years, then left teaching to concentrate on writing. She has been a writing instructor for University of Regina Extension and for the Saskatchewan Writers Guild; she also has a number of private students. She received her MEd from the University of Regina in 2002. Her first picture book was Nathaniel’s Violin, for which she also wrote a musical score for young string players. She has published thirteen books for children and young adults, as well as numerous short pieces for adults and children, consisting of fiction, non-fiction articles, poetry, book reviews, and academic works. She has received many awards for her writing, including the Saskatchewan Young Readers’ Choice Award, and she was short-listed for Book of the Year at the Saskatchewan Book Awards.
