Born in Ramsayville, Ontario in 1912, James G. Kettles devoted a lifetime of service to police work in Canada. He assumed the office of Saskatoon Chief of Police in February 1954 and initiated a complete reorganization of the force and restructuring of police headquarters. A respected writer and speaker on police matters, Kettles served as president of the Canadian Police Chief's Association. He was an active member of the Masonic Order, Saskatoon Rotary Club, and Saskatoon Board of Trade. For more than thirty-five years of police service, James Kettles was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1972. He died on December 11, 1983.
