Minnesota-born Willa Haughton moved to Saskatchewan in her early childhood and was a dedicated volunteer for numerous organizations based in Regina. For over forty years, she served on various committees for the Red Cross and received the organization’s Distinguished Service Award in 1973. Haughton also volunteered her time to the Regina United Way, Regina Symphony Board, Catholic Women’s League, and Pasqua Hospital Auxiliary. She was active in sports and served as president of the Saskatchewan Provincial Golf Association. In 1989, Haughton received both the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award and the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. She died on November 3, 2004.
